This is my first joint recap so just hang in there. I only plan to do these when I’m super far behind with posting. Lucky for me, they both had sad elements so it made coming up with a catchy title pretty easy.
Episode 20: Angel Heart
Any episode with Claire is a tricky one. She has every reason to walk around with a heavy heart and anger but as fans, we want her to trust Cas. He means well and has an understanding of why she’s so hurt. With that being said, it was fun to see Jimmy again. It didn’t last long but he’s a secret favorite character of mine. So let’s get down to angel business. If this show has taught me anything, it’s that angels are dicks. Simple as that. The one featured in this episode is a shining example of that. His name was Tamiel and apparently he was a type of angel that fed on humans. The proper term is “Grigori”. Just when I thought that the writers had ran out of mythology to include, they hit us with this. I can’t keep up. Well Tamiel had been keeping Claire’s mom captive and feeding off of her. A rescue mission happens and it ends up going horribly wrong. Although she’s 18 now, Claire is now basically an orphan and her only trusted companions are Cas, Sam, and Dean. It’s a sad tale that the boys know all too well. But she’ll be okay. Let’s not forget that she has an angel watching out for her.
Episode 21: Dark Dynasty
I decided to watch this episode on Thursday on Hulu. I’m glad I did because I would’ve been SCREAMING both physically and virtually on Twitter. Actually, I did more silent screaming than anything. I don’t want to go straight into the ending just yet because…I’m not ready to discuss it. To start this off, let me just say: I hate the Styne family. Even more than Dick Roman and definitely more than Cole. They were first introduced as just this douchebag family that causes horrible events and “owns” the Book of the Damned. Little did anyone suspect that they’re even more twisted than just that. They harvest body parts to add to themselves and make them a bit more than average. As soon as this part was mentioned, I had a feeling they were going into a certain territory. The more Eldon Styne talked about the family, the more I started to suspect that it was about to take a ridiculous yet fascinating turn. And it did. The Stynes are actually the Frakensteins. This actually made me very happy. I LOVE when Supernatural digs into familiar and pop culture mythology. The last time I can recall them doing this was with Charlie and the Wizard of Oz. Oh Charlie…I’m not there yet. Before I get to that, let’s talk about her secretly working with Rowena and Cas to decode the Book of the Damned. It was like the study group from Hell. Rowena talked good game to Charlie but I’m just now realizing that it was actually foreshadowing. Yes, the Winchesters can put you into grave danger but they can also save you from it. With that being said, I’m sure she’s not totally dead. Or maybe she is. My heart stopped once I saw her lying in that tub. The episode abruptly ended right after that so there’s hope that they can save her. If they can’t, it’ll weigh heavily on their hearts and probably fuel Dean to go off and find a way to defeat the Stynes and cure himself without Sam or Cas. I actually think that’s the plot of the next episode. If this really is the end, maybe I’ll bid her farewell in a post.
