I hope Jay’s here to stay…recap of Episode 2 of The Flash

(The CW)

If you’re a big fan of The Flash comics, this episode probably made you super happy. Seeing Jay Garrick team up with Barry was pretty freaking awesome. Even the cheesy redo of the classic Flash of Two Worlds cover was awesome. I loved the direction they took with Jay’s costume and how they brought it into the modern world. If they had stuck to the same bright outfit used in the comics, he’d probably be the laughingstock of the episode. Not that the original costume is bad but…it’s too bright and regular for modern DC Comics adaptations. If you’re not sure what I mean, just take a look at all the modern DC superhero costumes and compare them to the originals. Dark, muted colors are in for DC. But back to the episode.

Even with all of the tension, Barry and Grant made a great team. The Sand Demon was pretty nasty but they managed to figure everything out. As for the new woman in town, Patty Spivot, she was kinda irritating but I couldn’t figure out why. Turns out she’s Barry’s current GF in the New 52 reboot. I believe something happened to Iris and that’s why they’re together but even so, I don’t like it. I don’t think the writers are gonna seriously consider going down that road. I wouldn’t be surprised if they kill her off by the end of the season. Besides, we’re heading into multiverse territory so maybe other universe Barry is with Patty right now. Well we know that other world Dr. Wells is alive and well (ha ha) so anything could happen at this point. So who is Zoom? The only thing that is certain is that he is voiced by Tony Todd aka Candyman. Is there a chance that other universe Dr. Wells is Zoom? Possibly. I wouldn’t bet on it though. Maybe Cisco will be the key to figuring everything out. He has to use his powers for something, right?

Who throws a hot dog cart?!…recap of the Season 2 premiere of The Flash

(The CW)

It wasn’t until this episode that I realized that I had missed seeing Grant’s face every week. I was all giddy right before like a 5 year old. Well this episode did not disappoint. We started off with seeing just what happened right after the finale. That black hole was closed but…with the help (and at the expense) of Firestorm. I don’t think anyone saw Ronnie’s “death” coming. If I’m correct, Firestorm must be combined with 2 people in order to power up. If I’m wrong about this, please correct me in the comments. We know that Dr. Stein is joining the Legends of Tomorrow gang so I wonder how that’s gonna work. So Barry started the episode off with having to deal with the deaths of both Eddie and Ronnie. He blamed himself and basically threw a pity party during most of the episode. Most viewers on Twitter weren’t having it. In his mental state, Barry almost couldn’t defeat the new meta, Atom-Smasher. With that guy’s abilities, Barry was no match all by himself.

On a positive note, Flash Day looked awesome. Those people were just as excited as most of us at home watching. It was also a big deal because it was the first time that most of the city really acknowledged and praised The Flash. He’s on his way to becoming an icon and getting that museum  (the one that was already teased in the finale). Too bad Papa Allen won’t be there to see it. Well at least he’s out of jail, thanks to Dr. Wells’ USB of secrets/confessions. Tonight we officially meet Jay Garrick and he is actually quite handsome. He may be about 90 years old (don’t quote me), but time travel is a marvelous thing. Two worlds collide tonight!

Run, Barry, Run!…recap of the Season Finale of The Flash

(The CW/Hulu)

“Better late than never” has been the theme for me these past few posts. I’m working on it. For now, let’s just talk about how freaking AWESOME this finale was.

We all had high hopes and expectations and it didn’t disappoint. There were twists and turns that no one saw coming and it was pretty epic. Let’s try something different with this post. I’ll countdown my top 5 moments of the episode.

Moment #5: More time travel

Although we know how dangerous this could be, Barry decided to go back in time to save his mom. The thing about that is that it would change the majority of his life. No close relationship with neither Joe nor Iris. Not even friendship with Cisco and Caitlin. But with some extra chanting from Eobard, Barry went the distance. He failed to save his mother but he did get to say goodbye to her. Cue the waterworks.

Moment #4: Papa Joe’s speech

The feels were in full effect during this speech. It had all the emotion you could ever expect from a situation in which someone is basically losing their child. Joe has been Barry’s father for a large portion of his life. With the whole changing history situation, they were about to lose that relationship. Joe calling Barry “son” was the icing on the cake and my heart suddenly broke into a thousand pieces. Then the moment with Barry’s mom happened so the pieces broke even more.

Moment #3: Easter Eggs galore

Okay, I’ll admit that I didn’t catch these myself but many people did right away. As Barry zoomed through time, he was able to see a few events in the Speed Force. First, there was a glimpse of Caitlin as Killer Frost. This one went by so fast that I didn’t even recognize her as Caitlin. If you don’t know who Killer Frost is, just know that she’s as cold as ice and just as cruel. There was also a peek at the future Flash Museum. Other than the Rip Hunter name drop that was a set up for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the other goodie was Jay Garrick’s helmet. As in, Golden Age Flash. Well that certainly screws up some things. His helmet is suddenly in the present. But we’re probably just dealing with a good ol’ parallel universe.

Moment #2: Eddie’s sacrifice

I actually predicted this happening. Okay, not really a prediction but I suggested that if Eddie killed himself, Eobard would disappear. A friend of mine called that extreme and well, look what happened. We had all speculated what Eddie’s involvement would be with everyone just assuming he was gonna go evil. It turned out that it was the complete opposite. He gave his life to save everyone else’s. It was heroic and it almost made me sad to see him leave. Although it made complete sense, it was still a shock to see it happen on screen.

Honorable Mention: Caitlin & Ronnie’s Wedding

It was adorable and romantic but now “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House is stuck in my head.

Drum roll please….

Moment #1: The cliff hanger that could destroy everything

The last 10 minutes had us hanging off the edge of our seats as we eyed the time and soon realized that the episode was gonna end with Barry trying to stop a wormhole from forming. We won’t find out what happened until Season 2. Well that’s one way to guarantee that people will watch the next season.

So there you have it, folks. What did you think of the finale?

In Grodd (& Captain Cold) we trust…recap of Episodes 21 & 22 of The Flash

(The CW/Hulu)

I apologize for having to do another joint recap but after next week, there won’t be many more recaps in general.

Episode 21: Grodd Lives

We had been waiting for this episode for so long and it finally showed up. It was a showdown that we all expected to blow us away and it did. The special effects crew did an amazing job of bringing our favorite mind controlling gorilla to life and making him seem realistic. They also managed to make him just as terrifying as you’d expect. Poor Joe was about to lose all control of his bodily functions. It’s okay, Joe. I jumped a few times myself as I watched. To beat Grodd, you have to outsmart him which is kinda difficult. Luckily, a well-timed approaching train did the trick but just barely. This isn’t the last we’ve seen of Grodd so Barry has to get it together to figure out just how to defeat him. And another thing, what about the train that hit him? That’s bound to have some complications. Barry didn’t even stick around to find out if it derailed or anything. Hidden deep in what we find out in Episode 22 is STAR Labs, Wells has Eddie hostage for a purpose that’s not entirely clear. While he’s down there, he spills the beans about Iris ending up with Barry in the future. That is NOT the way a person should find out that the woman they want to marry will end up with another guy. But hey, what are time travelling family members for? Lastly, Iris’ head is in the game and she wants in now that she knows about The Flash. But on a somewhat serious note, what is up with the security at STAR Labs? Everyone, and I mean everyone, just walks up in there. No wonder so many people know Barry’s secret.

Episode 22: Rogue Air

Ah, the fan girl in me sighed with admiration at this episode. Captain Cold was back again because who doesn’t need multiple doses of Wentworth Miller? Of course, he’ll be in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow but that won’t air until next year. This episode answered the question: how do you safely transport metahumans? The answer: you don’t. It’s also harder to do when you trust a villain to help you. Bad idea, Barry. On the plus side, at least Golden Glider got her official villain name thanks to Cisco. We also got to see that the metas don’t like each other very much. But now they’ve escaped thanks to Captain Cold and Lisa. I have to admit, as siblings they are pretty family oriented. The failed transport may have been a loss for Barry but his battle with the Reverse-Flash was definitely a win. With a little help from Oliver and Firestorm/Ronnie, they managed to defeat Wells in a truly epic showdown. I’m not just saying that because this is the first time the Amell cousins have done a scene together (although that was amazing in itself). Overall, these 2 episodes were great and helped to build up the excitement for the finale next week. I can only imagine what will happen.

New and Returning Shows from DC Entertainment

(logos.wikia.com)

Constantine may have been cancelled but DC Comics still has their hands tied when it comes to shows. Here’s a list of what you can expect to see later this year.

*Note* This list doesn’t include any web series. But that’s exciting news too!

Fox

New: Lucifer (based on the comic book character of the same name. Crowley better watch out because there’s gonna be another King of Hell in town.)

Returning: Gotham

The CW

New: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (the Arrow/The Flash spin-off we’ve all been hearing about)

Returning: Arrow, The Flash, and iZombie

CBS

New: Supergirl (no description needed)

Cartoon Network

Returning: Teen Titans Go!

So soon there’s gonna be plenty of DC shows to watch and enjoy across many channels. Just don’t look forward to seeing any on ABC (Disney owns both them and Marvel).

Yes Iris, it’s Barry…recap of Episode 20 of The Flash

(The CW/Hulu)

All those who’d like to take part in the “We Hate Wells/Eobard Club”, raise your hand. If you weren’t a part of this club before, I bet you were after this episode. Just when it seemed as though Barry and the team had a way to trap Wells, he outsmarted them. How do you defeat someone who’s always one step ahead? Better yet, will he ever be defeated on the series? I mean, Reverse Flash is Barry’s biggest foe in the comics so if there is a solution, it’ll probably be temporary. Or at least I hope so. He’s obviously pretty smart. It was a genius idea to use Hannibal Bates’ shapeshifting abilities to mimic him so they’d harm the wrong person. I actually felt sorry for Hannibal. He got caught up in a dangerous game of cat and mouse and probably had no choice but to participate. Of course, if Joe hadn’t start firing, no one would have known it was him under there. So he’s dead and Wells is somewhere relaxing and waiting for them to find him. I would call him an arrogant jerk but I’m sure there’s still much to learn about him. Like if he was The Flash’s biggest fan (like in the comics) or if his motivation is more sinister. Either way, I’m just glad Cisco didn’t have to die again. The poor boy has been through enough. But since we’re talking about altering time, let’s get to the information Cisco, Barry, and Caitlin discovered thanks to Gideon.

So Barry (and anyone who is new to the world of Flash) found out that he ends up marrying Iris. And ends up Director of the CSI division. Oh, and disappears after a crisis. But most importantly, despite the fact that Eddie was prepared to pop the question first, it is fate that she will end up with Barry. Good. Did you see the way she sat at his bedside during the coma flashback scenes? It tugged at the heartstrings. Joe did too. But the major conclusion of the episode, for me at least, was Iris’ moment with The Flash that led to her finally realizing that it’s Barry. Tonight we’ll get to see her true reaction after Barry’s done dealing with Grodd and stuff. No biggie.

A shapeshifter. Named Hannibal Bates. Lovely…recap of Episode 19 of The Flash

(The CW/Hulu)

But seriously, Hannibal Bates?! That name is both genius and eyebrow raising. The character of Everyman was created in 2006 so the corniness was probably just a writer ‘s joke. I’d hope so. But besides his bona fide killer name, he just happens to also be a shapeshifter. No, this isn’t a Supernatural recap. Barry went head to head with a shapeshifter who insisted on becoming everyone close to him, including him. Oh, and tried to frame Eddie for murder. Dude’s a douche with no real motivation. Not to mention the fact that his normal form is utterly terrifying. I yelped a bit when I saw him. Onto the other parts of the episode. Papa Joe seemed to be able to get through to Lance. Let’s hope it’s enough for him to stop the foolishness that he’s been partaking in. Laurel has her official canary cry device so let’s hope this means that she’s headed in the right direction as far as Black Canary. She has Cisco to thank. How does she repay him? With a photo with Black Canary as if he was at a comic convention. Classic. As for Eobard/Wells, his days seem to be numbered. The team found the original Wells’ body and now all they need is to figure out who he really is. Well I can tell you it helps that they find Gideon at the end of the episode. Writing this after seeing episode 20 is quite hard. I have to be mindful not to mention anything that happened in last night’s episode. It has way more twists and turns and a conclusion that means the final four episodes will be epic. This episode’s purpose was to make sure everyone was on board with the “Wells is shady” idea. Now they all are. Things are getting intense.

“Ain’t nobody got time for bees!”…recap of Episode 18 of The Flash

(The CW/Hulu)

Cisco will forever be the MVP of this show. Not only have we seen the man die more than once, but he still has the best lines. His reactions throughout this episode were priceless. But enough about him. Ray did a good job of being the punching bag of the group. His personality is slowly becoming a lot more tolerable and I’m happy things are moving towards that point. Maybe it was the nano tech attacking his brain that did it. Or it could be Felicity’s influence. Either way, I’m starting to like him. In this episode, we were introduced to the female version of the Bug-Eyed Bandit (also called Queen Bee). I think the gender bender was an interesting twist. It also helped make the mini-showdown between her and Felicity that much more awesome. Then there was the whole Iris and Eddie thing. It was awkward and a little unnecessary. I understand Iris’ anger but she took it a bit too far. She was like the spastic girlfriend. Hopefully all of this comes to a head sometime soon and we find out that there’s more to all of this and her character. It looks like it’s time for some answers as Joe and Barry include Cisco and Caitlin in their investigation of Dr. Wells. On top of this, Cisco had been having flashbacks of what happened in the other time continuum. It looks like they manage to get to the bottom of everything in the next episode so I’m excited to see what happens.
